Build a table that can be analysed
Reliable analysis starts with one row per observation and one column per variable. Use a single header row, consistent data types, stable identifiers and explicit units. Avoid merged cells, colour as data, totals inside the source table and multiple meanings in one column.
Create a data-quality checklist for missing identifiers, duplicates, impossible dates, mixed units and values outside expected ranges. Keep the original extract unchanged and perform cleaning in a repeatable transformation so the next month does not require manual repair.
One row per observation; stable identifiers; explicit units; validate duplicates and ranges; preserve the original source.
