The commissioning document set

Commissioning runs on documents. The core set is the P&ID, the instrument index, the I/O list, loop diagrams, cause and effect matrix, control narrative, vendor manuals, cable schedule, and the test procedures with their record sheets.

Before mobilising, confirm you hold the current revision of every document. Working from a superseded revision is the single most expensive avoidable error in commissioning, because everything downstream — tests, records, punch items — inherits the error.

Establish one controlled register of revisions on day one and check it whenever a document is reissued.

Key points

Core set: P&ID, instrument index, I/O list, loop diagrams, cause & effect, narrative, vendor manuals, cable schedule, procedures; control revisions from day one.
